Duane R. Erickson, age 91 passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Laurels Edge in Mankato. At Duane’s request, his service will be a private family gathering on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Mayo Hospice, or to the donor’s choice. A recording of the service will be available after Friday at www.mankatomortuary.com.
Duane was born on September 17, 1930, to Herman and Evelyn (Hed) Erickson in St. Peter, MN. While in Mankato, Duane met the love of his life Lorraine L. Spotts and they were married on September 30, 1950.
In his younger years Duane worked at Hilltop Florist and then established his career at Kato Engineering until his retirement. While building their lives in the Mankato area, Duane and Lorraine enjoyed living and maintaining their beautiful property on Lake Jefferson. Duane and Lorraine, along with the cherished dogs Bonkers and Riley, were constantly on the move in their motorhome traveling and camping. They also enjoyed relaxing cruises abroad when they really wanted to get away. During their retirement in Fort Myers, FL they were close to their son Steve and his wife Teri and spent time with their grandchildren Stacy and Kyle. Duane and Lorraine returned to Mankato in 2013. Duane enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, tinkering with things, attending sporting events, and above all spending time with family and friends. He had a quick wit and was always ready with a smile, laugh and a helping hand for whomever needed it.
Duane is survived by his daughter-in-law, Theresa (Teri) Erickson; granddaughter, Stacy (Dylan) MacGregor; grandson, Kyle Erickson; great-grandchildren, Maryn and Molly MacGregor; son-in-law, Rick Miller; sister, Vicki Christenson; sister-in-law, Sandy Gemlo, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Evelyn; wife, Lorraine; daughter, Julie Miller; son, Steven Erickson; brother, DeMar Erickson, and sister, Vernetta Clausius.
