Duane Erwin Ziegler, age 87, of rural Mankato, passed away Monday, December 16, 2024 at New Perspective Senior Living in Mankato.
Visitation will be held from 4-7pm, Friday, December 20, 2024 at Mankato Mortuary (1001 N. Riverfront Drive, Mankato). Funeral Mass 11am, Saturday, December 21, 2024 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior. Military honors will be provided by the Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Rifle Squad. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Duane was born July 5, 1937 in Braham, Minnesota to Raymond and Martha (Seidel) Ziegler. As a young child, his family relocated to rural Madison Lake. He later graduated from St. Clair High School in 1956. Duane enlisted in the Army on January 4, 1957 and completed his reserve obligation on January 3, 1963. He was introduced to Dorothy Meurer at the Kato Ballroom. They were united in marriage on March 23, 1957. Duane and Dorothy were blessed with five children. When they were younger, he was proud to be their baseball coach.
Duane worked in the maintenance department of Honeymead for many years until retiring in 1989. He was a proud lifelong member of the MN Deer Hunters Association, St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, VFW Post 950, and the Lake Crystal American Legion. Duane also enjoyed fishing, mowing lawn, deer hunting, and watching the Twins and Vikings.
Duane is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Dode” Ziegler; daughter, Denise (Dennis) Peterson and their children, Devin (Matt) Moline, Drew (Lindsay) Peterson, and Darian (Jeff) Nagel; son, Dale (Cheryl) Ziegler and their children, Mikayla (Brywn) Ractcliffe, Jacob (Michaela) Ziegler, and Alison (Tyler) Dobson; son, Darrell (Brenda) Ziegler and their children Dustin (Jenna) Ziegler and Brady Ziegler; son, Douglas (Tami) Ziegler and their children, Andrew (Beth) Retzlaff and Sydney (fiancé Logan Stenberg) Ziegler; son, David Ziegler and his children, Jasmine Ziegler and Dillon Ziegler; and 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Martha Ziegler; and siblings, Sheldon Ziegler, Francis Ziegler, and Kathleen Ziegler.
