Edie was born on September 18, 1949, in Duluth to Kirk and Sarah Glass. She began her education at Longfellow Elementary School and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1967. In 1971 her beautiful daughter Nikki joined Edie and she devoted the rest of her life to Nikki's care and development with infinite patience, deeply loving compassion, and fierce advocacy.
Edie spent nearly all of her adult life in the rural Mankato area. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Mankato State University and additional graduate-level coursework in Biology. She was trained and had experience in animal management.
