Flora Mae Slater, age 80, died Sunday, June 9, 2019 at her Mankato residence after a courageous cancer battle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Northview~North Mankato Mortuary and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
Flora was born September 3rd, 1938 in Mankato to Leo and Celestine (Thissen) Hoffman. She graduated from Loyola High School in 1956. She was united in marriage to Donald R Slater Jr. on June 25th, 1956 in Mankato. She was a stay at home mom raising 6 children. After the death of her husband in 1985, she worked at Carlson Craft for 19 years and part-time at McDonalds. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a former member of the Moose Lodge of Mankato. Flora enjoyed vegetable and floral gardening, embroidery, traveling, camping and spending time with her family at the lake cabin.
She is survived by her children, Donald (Doreen) Slater of Mankato, Deborah (David) Stenger of North Mankato, David (Cindy) Slater of Rapidan, John (Mary) Slater of North Mankato, Diane (Joseph) Zieska of Prior Lake and Nancy (John) Anderson of Mankato; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Gimmer of Mankato; sister-in-law, Janice (Stan) Latourelle of Mapleton; brother-in-law, James Slater of Mapleton; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Donald R Slater Jr. in 1985; their two infant daughters Carol Ann and Rita Mae; parents Leo and Celestine Hoffman; toddler brother Leo Henry (Sonny) Hoffman; father- and mother-in-law, Donald R Slater Sr. and Marion; brothers-in-law Kenneth Gimmer Sr. and Ronald Slater; and great-granddaughter Lydia Sue Chopp.
Flora’s family expresses great appreciation to the Mayo Health System Hospice staff for their devotion and excellent care. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
