Gary D. Grimm

Gary Donald Grimm, born October 10, 1950, to William “Don” and and Helen Grimm in Duluth, died suddenly April 1, 2022, at his home in Mankato, Minnesota.

Gary was a longtime Mankato resident, however, he grew up on the Duluth hillside near Lake Superior and up north always felt like home to him and his family.  After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.  Gary did concrete work before moving to LeSueur after obtaining a position at  Minnesota Security Hospital.  Gary worked for the state of Minnesota for 38 years.

Gary was beloved by coworkers, friends, and family for his patience, strong faith, a quick wit, and a fantastic sense of humor (often crying while laughing).  He enjoyed cooking for his loved ones and was well known for his delicious Coney Dogs.  As a logophile, he had a fondness for obscure words and was known to read the dictionary for fun.  Gary was always up for a game and was a shrewd competitor, especially at pool and cribbage.

Gary is survived by his wife, Linda Grimm of Minnetonka; children, Aaron (Kelly McBride) Grimm of Mankato, Trista Grimm of Janesville, and Beth Grimm of North Mankato; grandchildren, Cain, Willem, Jayden, Kelbi, Broden, Logan, Lucie and Charlotte, siblings, David Grimm of Duluth, Larry Grimm of Oftersheim, Germany, and Eileen Borgh of Wausau, WI; nephews, nieces, and many friends.

A Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 15, 2022, at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato.  Visitation will be one hour before service. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to VINE Faith in Action in memoriam.
