Gary "Gus" August Larson

Gary “Gus” August Larson, age 78, of Lake Crystal unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Crystal. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Crystal, with visitation one hour prior at the church as well. Interment will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements. Pastor Andrea Myers officiating. The service will be livestreamed on Gus’ obituary page at www.mankatomortuary.com.

Born on December 12, 1942 in Spencer, Iowa to Edwin and Hazel Larson. He graduated from Gillette Grove, Iowa in 1960. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1964. In 1965 he went to work for Trojan Seed in Sac City, Iowa. He married Marsha Aschinger on November 28, 1965. In 1968 they moved to Lake Crystal, Minnesota where they have resided since. Gus worked in the seed industry for his entire career. He was active in multiple civic organizations including Lion’s Club, Rodeo Days, Crystal-Loon Lake Rec and a member of John Roth Post 294. Also, an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. Following retirement Gus worked as a van driver for Nickel Transportation and part time for the fertilizer department for Crystal Valley. He also enjoyed gardening and sharing produce with friends and loved living on the lake.

Gus is survived by wife, Marsha; daughter, Michelle (Jay) Hanson and son, Scott (Sara) Larson; grandchildren, Alyssa and Erika Hanson, Caden and Griffin Larson; sisters, Hazel Anderson, Sharon Crabb, and Ginger (Larry) Harman and brother, Carl (Nancy) Larson; mother-in-law, Berneta Carstensen; in-laws, Connie Wyckoff, Marilyn McBride, Randy (Sandy) Aschinger, Lori (David) King, Donna (Jeff) Rasmussen, Kevin (Terri) Carstensen, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Phyllis (Les) Davis, Shirley (Dick) Barnard and brother, Dean (Vivian) Larson; brothers-in-law, Kirby Anderson, Lyle Crabb and John McBride; parents-in-law, Donald Aschinger and Wally Carstensen.
