Gene Gayle Knewtson passed away peacefully Friday morning, September 13, 2024.
Gene was born on August 31st, 1942 to Russell and Maxine (Runke) Knewtson in Mankato.
He graduated from Mapleton High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education from Mankato State University. Gene taught in the Anoka School District his entire career. He was a dedicated teacher to his students and wonderful colleagues. One of his most significant accomplishments was being chosen Teacher of the Year.
After retiring, Gene devoted his love and time to caring for his parents. He was a loyal and compassionate son and was very proud of his upbringing and the family farm. He also began working part-time for the Mankato Area Funeral Homes. Gene was known for his passion for helping others in the classroom, with his family and at Mankato Area Funeral Homes.
Gene was a lifelong member of the Beauford United Methodist Church. His hobbies included the family farm, gardening, golf, John Deere tractors and spending time with family and friends.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Maxine Knewtson. He is survived by his two brothers, Dale (Patti) Knewtson and Gary (Mary) Knewtson. He leaves behind his nieces and nephews, John and Tari Colby, Jay and Heidi Rohe, Troy and Kelly Knewtson, Marc and Kelly Nakamitsu, Brooks and Katie Deibele, and Justin and Emily Neubauer.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday September 20, 2024 at Beauford UMC (15797 MN 22, Mapleton, MN). Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery, Beauford.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Maple River High School Dollars for Scholars.
