Georgia “Grandma Jo” Marie Morgan-Pietan, age 72, of Lake Crystal, died on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Rochester Saint Mary's Hospital, surrounded by her daughters from complications of heart surgery.
Celebration of Life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Lake Crystal with a light lunch to follow. Visitation will be held at 10:30 am, prior to the service on Saturday.
Georgia, the daughter of George "Alan" and Mary (Forward) Morgan, was born on January 16, 1951 in Bozeman, MT. She graduated as a Lake Crystal Laker in 1969 and from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and a Master’s degree in Community Counseling. Jo was a member of the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and Phi Kappa Phi. She married James Pietan in Minneopa State Park on September 17, 1972 and they later divorced. Jo worked as a therapist in New Ulm. She enjoyed cross-stitch, quilting, photography, knitting, crocheting, reading, watching TV, listening to music, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family. She was a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church Book Club and Circle Club. Jo was able to go to the World’s Fair with her aunts, Fern and Lynne, in 1964, and it was one of her most re-visited memories. In her youth, she enjoyed mountain hiking, camping, whitewater rafting, and traveling.
She is survived by her daughters, Sara (Erick) Raygor, Amber Pietan (Alex Emlaw), and Jonna (Seth) Zarbano; grandchildren, Corey (Katie) Raygor, Andrew Gaard, Christopher Raygor, Ashley Raygor (Matt Larsen), Shaley Zarbano, Lucas Pietan, and Tavian Zarbano; great-grandchildren, Aubrie Lynch, Coletyn Raygor, Levi Raygor, Jamie Eichberger, Masyn Raygor, and Renly Raygor; brother, William Ross (Kris) Morgan; great uncle, William Towner (Judy) Morgan; nieces and nephews, Tyrone, Chelsey, Hayley, Bill, Whitney, Raymond, Jezreal, Jade, and Seth; many cousins; and special friends, Suzie Broich, Rita Ramy, JoAnne Starke, and Kathy Sturm.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George "Alan" and Mary Morgan; former husband, James Pietan; sister, MaryAnn (Douglas) VanderLouw; grandparents, Ross and Emma (Sage) Forward and William and Mabell (Brown) Morgan; and brother-in-law, Douglas VanderLouw.
