Gertrude Emma Marks, age 104, of rural Good Thunder, died Monday, January 6, 2020.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2020 at St. John Lutheran Church, Good Thunder with Rev. Rudolph H. Maurer, Jr., officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Good Thunder. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.
Gertrude was born December 5, 1915 to Albert and Ida (Scheider) Sombke in Lyra Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. Gertrude married Leonard A. C. Marks on June 4, 1952 at St. John Lutheran Church, Good Thunder. Gertrude was a homemaker and assisted on the farm. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she was a member of the ladies aide and quilting group. Gertrude enjoyed quilting, gardening, yard work, and her house cats.
Gertrude is survived by her niece, Margaret Ganzel of rural Mankato; niece-in-law, Beverly Sombke of rural Good Thunder; many great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews; and extended family.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard in 1999; sister, Elsa (William) Reetz; four brothers, one in infancy, Arthur (Alma), Otto, and Walter; sister-in-law, Ella (Edwin) Bohlke; brother-in-law, Herbert Marks; nephews, Marlin Sombke, Duane Bohlke, and Omar Bohlke; niece, Ila (Delroy) Zimmerman; nephew-in-law, Kenneth Ganzel; and extended family.
