Glen (Butch) Rueben Sohre, Sr, 93, went to his heavenly home on Sept 13, 2020. He had his wishes fulfilled by being in his own bed, in his own home in Good Thunder, MN. He went to sleep and entered Heaven.
Services will be on Wednesday, September 16th, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. – St. John Lutheran Church, Good Thunder with visitation held one hour prior to the service and gravesite interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Good Thunder. Pastor Rudolph H. Maurer, Jr. is presiding. Pallbearers are Scott Lange, Jerry Brandts, Robert Fitzsimmons, Ben Hollerich, Josh Walters, Michael Sohre and Carter Wilson. Mankato Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
Glen was born at home on June 5, 1927 to Arthur and Martha (Tischer) Sohre in rural Good Thunder, Beauford Township. He had 5 brothers and 2 sisters: Harvey (died at birth), Lester, Elmer, Merlin, LeRoy, Viona Holtz and Elverna Schimmele.
He farmed in rural Good Thunder his entire life and moved to the city of Good Thunder upon retirement. Butch’s son, Glen Jr., and his sons continue to farm the land. He loved his wife and his family and was a lifelong Christian and friend to all.
His favorite hobby was fishing. He often took fishing trips with his siblings, in-laws, children, grandchildren and friends for many years. He loved to catch any fish, but loved catching Northerns the most. If he had his way, he would have kept, cleaned and fried everything he caught. Later in retirement, he restored his Minneapolis Moline R tractor. He also worked on restoring his lawn mowers, garden tillers and Glen Jr’s heat lamps. He definitely tried to keep busy!
He is survived by lifelong love, Marianne (Wenner) Sohre. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on September 1st, 2020. He has 7 children, Sharon (Marlin deceased) Lange, Deborah (John) Brandts, Cinda (Tom) Fitzsimmons, Suzan (Ken) Hollerich, Rhonda (Allan) Walters, Glen M (Ann) Sohre, and Shane (Becky) Wilson. He also has 32 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. These numbers do not include all of the in-laws in his immediate family.
Glen enjoyed friendship with many of his neighbors. They cared about him and helped him anytime he was in need. His children are thankful for all of those wonderful people. Special thanks to Jack and Brenda Bintz, his next door neighbors, for their special friendship.
