Gregory Noel Vetter went home to his eternal reward on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family.
Greg was born on May 10, 1931, the son of Otto and Laurentia (Florence) Vetter. He grew up in the Kasota area and graduated from Kasota High School at age 16. Greg enlisted in the Army in 1951, serving with the 101st Division in Kentucky and the Seventh Army in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Greg returned to his home in Kasota. He then attended Minnesota State College obtaining his bachelor’s degree. Greg’s lifelong passion was successfully operating the family farm alongside his father and brother, Richard. That farming legacy is now continued through his sons and nephews.
In 1955, Greg met the love of his life, Miriam Peters, at George’s Ballroom in New Ulm. They were married on August 4, 1956, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in rural Nicollet. Their 68 years of love and devotion to each other was a constant source of inspiration to their family.
Greg was active in many community organizations, including the Mankato Area Jaycees, the Mankato Elks Lodge, Tri-Lakers 4-H Club, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and the Caledonian Curling Club (now the Mankato Curling Club), where he served as club president and was honored with a lifelong membership.
Greg’s many interests included hunting on the family’s property (affectionately called the hills), family dogs, curling, card games with friends, and his daily coffee group. Greg was a devoted fan of his grandchildren’s activities, attending many sporting and arts events over the years.
Ever the caregiver, Greg taught his family the value of hard work, generosity toward others, and the joy of time spent together. Favorite memories include family vacations, Sunday suppers, annual 4th of July picnics, Christmas celebrations, and family trips to Vikings and Twins games.
Left to remember Greg are his beloved wife, Miriam; children, Michael (Joan) Vetter, Kevin (Julie) Vetter, Laura (Loren) Jansen, Timothy (Ruth) Vetter, Christine (Steven) Peterson, and Jeffrey (Renae) Vetter; 15 grandchildren, Robert (Casey) Vetter, Ryan Vetter, Thomas Vetter, Stephanie Vetter, Matthew (Ashley) Vetter, Sara (Michael) Mathews, Amy (Cory) Bienfang, Alissa (Brady) Nesvold, Emily Jansen, Elizabeth Vetter, Jennifer Vetter, Rachel Peterson, Alec Peterson, Jessica (Richard Keepseagle) Vetter, and Joshua (Lacy) Vetter; 10 great-grandchildren, Zariah, Scorpio Jr, and Jaylen DeBerry, Beckett and Calvin Mathews, Elsie, Aubrey, and Fiona Bienfang, and Amelia and Lillian Nesvold; sister-in-law, JoAnn Vetter; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Peters, Jean (Tim) Helgesen, and Barbara Gould; brother-in-law, Charles (Joann) Peters; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
