Helen Margaret Neubert, age 92, of North Mankato, passed away Saturday, September 11, 2021 surrounded by family at her home.

Visitation will be held from 4-7pm, Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be 11am, Friday, September 17, 2021 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Helen was born December 19, 1928 in Mankato to John “Jack” and Gertrude (Schaible) Burkel. She attended grade school at SS. Peter and Paul and graduated from The Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel. Shortly after, she began working at the Willard Agency. Helen was united in marriage to Jerome Albert Neubert on June 17, 1950.

Helen was blessed with many talents. She was an excellent seamstress and could sew a dress or upholster a chair without a pattern. Helen was a gifted musician as well, singing, playing the organ, piano, violin, and harmonica. She was the very first Bend of the River queen in 1981 and rode in the Aquatennial parade. Helen was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was involved with the choir and prayer groups. An activist for women’s rights, Helen was also on the League of Women Voters and Traverse des Sioux library board. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her children, Mary Jo (Tom) Jensen, David (Patty) Neubert, Thomas (Nancy) Neubert, Nancy Burgess, and Karen (Tom) Loveall; 16 grandchildren, Kathryn (Andrew) Khosravi, John Paul Jensen, Erin (Tom) Neubert Deneen, Joseph Neubert, Matthew (Haley) Neubert, Jen (Matt) Konicek, Liz (Dan) Krueger, Dan (Talia) Lee, Nicholas (Amanda) Neubert, Melinda (Brooke) Jennings, Jack (Brittany) Burgess, Keegan Burgess, Elizabeth Loveall, Margaret Loveall, Lucas Loveall, and Claire Loveall; 18 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Dr. William (Dee) Burkel and Steven (Cindy) Burkel.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerome “Dutch” Neubert; older sister, Phyllis; younger brothers, Jim, Roger, and Gene Burkel; son-in-law, Peter Burgess; and great-grandson, Isaac Thomas Neubert.
