Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Herbert was born on June 1, 1928 to Jacob and Anna (Liesmann) Geiger on a farm west of Hanska, MN. He graduated from Comfrey High School in 1946 and enlisted in the US Navy the same year. He proudly served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. On September 21, 1952, Herb was united in marriage to Bernice Elaine Wotschke in Sleepy Eye, MN. After returning home from the service he furthered his education at MSU earning a master’s degree in Business Education. He taught high school in New Ulm, MN and Morgan, MN before accepting a position at South Central Technical College in 1969 to teach accounting and then in recruitment and job placement, retiring in 2000.
Spending time with family was Herb’s greatest joy. Some of his happiest moments recently were playing pat-a-cake with the great grandchildren. Herb was happy when working to help others, especially when he could work on son Ron’s farm, as a Sunday school teacher and serving in various rolls at his church.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Bernice; children, JoAnn (Dave) Mack, Ron (Rita) Geiger, Karen (Steve) Purrington, Mark (Jane) Geiger; grandchildren, Justin (Liz) Mack, Jenna Mack, Ashley (Ryan) Maher, Kelly (Ross) Ratajczyk, Andrew (Sydney) Geiger, Lindsey (Harry) Franke, Sara (Drew) McCabe, Stephanie (Will) Roettger, Amanda (Nicholas) Moe, Adam (Marisa) Geiger; and 12 great-grandchildren. Herb was preceded in death by infant sons, Douglas Steven Geiger and Baby Geiger; his parents; 5 sisters; and 6 brothers.
The Geiger family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at New Perspective and Mayo Hospice. Their loving care and kindness were a tremendous blessing to Herb and his family.
Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran School Endowment, Mayo Hospice or donor’s choice.
