Herbert "Herb" Joseph Karpinsky

Mankato

Herbert J. Karpinsky, age 89, of Mankato, died on June 16, 2024 at The Pillars. 

Funeral Mass will be held on July 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Visitation will be July 19 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Northview-North Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Moments Hospice. 

Herbert was born on September 17, 1934 to Lawrence and Gertrude (Loher) Karpinsky in Chokio, MN. He graduated from Chokio High School in 1952 where he was active in football, basketball, and baseball. Herb married his high school sweetheart, Joan Ritter on June 15, 1954 in Chokio. Herb managed Chokio Hardware before moving to Sioux Falls where he worked for Skelly Oil, Skelgas Division. He lived in Stewartville, Rochester, and Madison, WI before moving to Mankato in 1961. Herb worked for Hiniker, Phillips Petroleum, Rosen Livestock, and then retired from United Agri Products, a division of Con Agra in 1998. Herb enjoyed golfing, annual hunting trips to Montana with family and friends, and playing cards. He had a great sense of humor and was known for his ‘Herb-isms’. He enjoyed spending time with his family at his cabin, Karps Kamp. 

Herb is survived by his wife of 70 years, Joan; children, Adrian (Kathy) Karpinsky, Cheryl (Lyle) Danberry, Theresa Karpinski, Paul Karpinsky (Recie Fontaine), Michael (Katherine) Karpinsky, John (Kristen) Karpinsky, and Ann (Todd) Beske; grandchildren, Emily and Aaron Danberry, Lindsay and Zachary Karpinsky, Michele Alba, Nichole Everman, Kalley Karpinsky, Maia, Jackson, and Julia Karpinsky, and Alexis and Riley Beske; and great-grandchildren, Amelia, Eavan, Lilly, Ronan, Jayden, Alec, Marcel, and Gracin. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Adrian and Leroy; and sisters, Edna Johnson, Irene Berlinger, and Rose Mary Karpinsky. 

 Herb’s family would like to thank Moments Hospice and the staff at The Pillars for the wonderful care they provided.
