North Mankato

Howard E. Hewitt, age 73, of North Mankato, died on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Pathstone Living. 

Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 16 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Minneopa Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association or Parkinson’s Foundation. 

Howard was born on September 10, 1951 in Mankato to Roy and Dorothy (Jarvis) Hewitt. He graduated from Mankato High in 1970. On September 12, 1970, Howard was united in marriage to Sharon O’Hara at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Howard served in the United States Army from 1971-1974. He graduated from Mankato State University in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement. Howard worked for the United States Postal Service for 38 years. Howard volunteered with many different organizations over the years. He was the co-coordinator of the North Mankato Fun Days and served on the committee of the Bend of the River Festival. He was the recipient of the Good Neighbor Award from the Civic and Commerce Association, which he was a member of. Howard was the chief of the North Mankato Police Reservices for 27 years and was a firearms instructor. Howard enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, corvette club, and even enjoyed storm chasing. He loved spending time with his dogs, but most of all, spending time with his grandsons and watching their sporting events. 

Howard is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Kristin (Tim) Gainor and their sons, Max and Will; son, Jonathan and his son, Rymer; siblings, Ronald (Judy), Donald (Pat), Gary (Sharon), Larry (Linda), and Paula; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jan Compton, Duane, Darwin, Peggy Rowan, and Timothy. 

Howard’s family would like to thank Ecumen Pathstone Living and hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
