Jane A. (Scheurer) Trondson, age 75 of Mankato, died Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato, after a recent cancer diagnosis.
Memorial Service 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Visitation will be one hour before service. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or Echo Food Shelf.
Jane was born to Clement and Anastasia (Leonard) Scheurer on January 30, 1944 in Mankato, the first daughter after four sons. Inspired by her mother, a classical musician, she developed an early interest in music and played clarinet in the Mankato Symphony Orchestra during her high school years. She graduated from Good Counsel in 1962 with a concentration in music.
Jane earned a Bachelor of Music from Alverno College in Milwaukee in 1968, having studied clarinet with Sherman Friedland of the Milwaukee Symphony and have been featured on Milwaukee television’s Young Artist series. She began her study of the organ in her junior year. Following graduation, she accepted a position teaching music in Lakefield, MN, where she taught wood winds and elementary music and served as organist in three churches in Lakefield and Heron Lake. While living in Heron Lake Jane developed an extensive garden with her love of flowers.
In 1974 she married Thomas Trondson and they made their home in Lakefield and then Heron Lake. They later divorced.
Music remained a key part of Jane’s life when she retired to Mankato. She belonged to and performed with the Sioux Trails Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and enjoyed participating in their summer organ recital series. She served as a substitute organist at three churches in the Mankato/St. Peter area and continued studying organ as an adult.
In retirement, and despite an increasingly debilitating neurological disability, Jane volunteered as an Adult Basic Education and Citizenship tutor at Lincoln Community Center, something she loved. She also enjoyed her friends at Orness Plaza and appreciated their support.
Jane is survived by her siblings, Daniel (Sylvia) Scheurer, Paul (Bev) Scheurer, Sister Katherine Scheurer, SSND, Sister Mary Scheurer, SSM, and Carolyn (Jim) Rovney; sister-in-law, JoAnn Scheurer; several nieces and nephews.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Brother Thomas Scheurer, C.S.C, Mark Scheurer, and Monica Scheurer.
