Janet Elaine Atkinson, 65, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She passed away on May 28, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 2 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Lake Crystal Mortuary and again one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you consider a donation in Janet’s name to an animal rescue or cancer research organization of your choice.
Janet was born June 18, 1955 to John and Luella (Luedke) Haycraft of Lewisville, MN. She graduated from Truman High School and attended college in Morris, MN. On May 1, 1976, she married her high school sweetheart and soulmate, Robert (Bob) Atkinson. Janet and Bob were faithful companions and partners in life. They enjoyed nothing more than spending time together, and their 45-year marriage was one of true love. They were blessed with three children: Emmy, Jill, and Joe. Janet was a dedicated mother who treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She was thrilled to become a grandmother and doted on her two grandchildren, Lily and Luke. She cherished her title of “Grannie,” and filled their lives with love and laughter. We will greatly miss her warm hugs, big laugh, and fun-loving nature.
Janet had a strong and steadfast faith and was an active member of her church, serving in many different roles throughout the years. She had a kind and compassionate spirit, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was a thoughtful and generous gift-giver who delighted in over-the-top holiday celebrations. When she wasn’t in the kitchen creating delicious meals for her family, Janet enjoyed the simple pleasures of working in her garden and watching the birds in her yard. She was a nature-lover known throughout the neighborhood for her animal rescue efforts.
Janet is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren, her sister Joyce (Bob) Vee of Madelia, MN, and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents.
