Jeffery Urban

April 5, 1960 — June 20, 2024

Amboy

Jeffery Scott Urban was born in Winnebago, MN. on April 5, 1960. His parents were Edmond and Lillian (Miller)Urban. Jeff was the youngest child, having five older sisters. He grew up in Amboy, MN., and lived there 62 of his 64 years.

Jeff graduated from Amboy - Good Thunder High School in 1978. He attended vocational school in Willmar, MN. for one year and then transferred to Mankato, MN. He graduated two weeks early and started work at KYSM radio and Southern Minnesota Sound. He got married to his high school sweetheart, Barbara Theis, on October 18, 1980, in Mapleton, MN. They moved to Amboy in 1982 and made their home there.

Jeff worked as a radio station technician for about 20 years, working in Mankato, New Ulm, Mason City, Faribault, plus more in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, etc. He decided he didn’t like being on the road all the time, and the opportunity to walk one block to work came up. He was hired by the City of Amboy, MN. and worked there for over 24 years. He was very proud to work for, and serve, his hometown. He was very dedicated to his job, often checking the waste water treatment plant during rain storms, plowing snow for hours on end, even on Christmas Day, or supervising and helping fix a water main break on a weekend or during a family birthday or school concert. He never went on a vacation because the city might need him for an emergency, and hardly ever turned in overtime hours. He loved his job.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Barb; sons, Shannon and Spencer; daughters, Sarah Thi and Serena (special friend, Steve Lee); grandsons, Teddy and Gregory Skawinski; sisters, Ronda Hunt, Diane (Ron) Kruggel, Judy (Dave) Zenk, Brenda (Rod) Urban, and Vickie (friend Robert Anderson) Hollerich; many nieces and nephews; and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his nephew, Joel Zenk; and his brother-in-law, Fred Hunt.

Memorial Service will be held on August 17 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Amboy. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.
