Jerome “Jerry” Flanagan, age 87, of Mankato, died on July 31, 2024 at Pathstone Living.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary. A Celebration of Life will follow at Hooligan’s from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Jerome was born on July 20, 1937 in Mankato to Delbert and Ruth (Frank) Flanagan. He graduated from Mankato High. Jerry served in the United States Army from January 5, 1957-November 27, 1958. He was an Army athlete and played on the U.S. Army baseball team. After serving in the Army, Jerry was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals minor league baseball team. After an injury Jerry went on to college at Mankato State College and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He played basketball while at Mankato State. On September 15, 1962, Jerry was united in marriage to Patricia Bailey at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Owatonna. Jerry taught health and physical education at St. Clair, Franklin Junior High where he also coached 8th grade boys basketball. He finished his teaching career at Mankato East Junior High and retired in 1993. Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing with many trips to the Dakotas and Canada. He also enjoyed playing tennis and golf and traveling. Jerry and Pat spent many years wintering in Naples, FL. They loved hosting dinner parties in their home. Jerry always enjoyed time spent with his grandsons and watching their various activities.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Kelley (Jeff) Hokeness; son, Jerrel (Carrie) Flanagan; and grandsons, Larssen Hokeness, Keiryn Flanagan, and Liam Flanagan. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pat; and sister, Joanne (Paul) Laven.
