Jerry Stanley Theissen, cherished father to Cindy, Patti, Jane and Mary Beth, made his final journey home on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the age of 86. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday October 11, 2019 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the donor’s charity.
Jerry was a lifelong Mankato resident – born May 17, 1933 to Margaret (Miller) and Cecil “Cook” Theissen. In 1953 he married Marion Sieberg. In 1956 he acquired his Journeyman Bricklayer Apprenticeship. Shortly after, he started his own “Jerry Theissen Masonry” contracting business. He built many beautiful homes and commercial buildings in town. After 50 years in his business, he retired telling people he was suffering from “Block-itis” in his back from all the heavy lifting he had done. However, retirement was elusive for Jerry. He went to work driving for MRCI for over 10 years before making it official.
After Marion’s passing in 2000, Jerry married LuEtta Young in 2004.
He had many interests. He received his pilot’s license in the 60’s and enjoyed flying light planes. He served on the Airport Commission for many years and was President of his flying club. He enjoyed many fishing trips with his brothers/friends as well as pulling his kids skiing for miles at the lake. He was always up for a good game of Pfeffer or 500 and along with Marion belonged to the Curling Club in Mankato for several years. He didn’t miss a Twins or Vikings game but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and loved to tell jokes.
Jerry is survived by his children, Cindy Theissen (Joan Mulvihill), Patti (Greg) Sjulstad, Jane Theissen (Dianna Graves) and Mary Beth (Steve) Manninen; grandchildren, Ryan (Rochelle) Sjulstad, Jeffrey (Lindsey) Sjulstad, Grant Manninen and Oliver Manninen; great-grandchildren, Scott and Sara Sjulstad, Reagan, Paisley, and Paxton Sjulstad; siblings, Mike (Linda)Theissen and Nancy (Jerry) Hoehn, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marion Theissen, and in 2014 his second wife, LuEtta Theissen; brother, Donald Theissen; brothers-in-law, Clarence Sieberg and Clarence Riemersma; sisters-in-law Bonnie Theissen and Helen Sieberg.
Jerry’s family would like to thank the staff at Oak Terrace and Mayo Hospice for their wonderful care of their dad. He enjoyed each and every one of you.
