On July 24, 1927, Jerome was born to Willie and Alma (Larson) Sandstrom in Odin Township, Watonwan County, Minnesota. One of eight children, he held dear his childhood on the farm with his siblings and loved to share stories about their antics. Jerome was close with his family throughout his life. In February of 1950, he married Sally Blow in Rapidan, Minnesota. They shared a life for 45 years before her passing in 1995. Jerome and Sally were blessed with four children, Regina, Martel, Debra, and Myron.
Jerome was a carpenter by trade, and he enjoyed building things for his home and his children. Jerome was fulfilled by simple pleasures often connected to his deep, Christian faith. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading novels and the newspaper, listening to the radio, tending to his yard, and feeding the squirrels and birds. Jerome read the bible and his devotions daily and loved to share what he learned with his family. He was a devout member of Zion Lutheran Church and attended weekly services.
Jerome is survived by three of his children Regina (Kelvin) Olson, Martel (Patricia) Sandstrom, Debra (Gerold) Boerger, and his daughter-in-law Cheryl Sandstrom. He is also survived by one sister, LaDonna Nygaard, and one brother-in-law, Alvin Berghammer. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
Jerome was preceded in death by his wife Sally, his youngest son Myron, his parents Willie and Alma, his infant sister Myrtle, his sisters Lorraine (Olaf) Richards, Darlene (John) Kotz, and Norma (John) Christianson, and his brothers Norval (Ruth), McLain (Joyce), and Leslie (Clela) Sandstrom.
