E. James Middleton, 90, passed away on December 3, 2022 in North Mankato, MN.
Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., January 14, 2023, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1706 Lee Blvd, North Mankato, MN 56003 with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato. Northview-North Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family. Livestreaming will be available at www.mankatomortuary.com. Memorials are preferred to the Mankato Elks Youth Camp, Mankato Elks Lodge 225, PO Box 154, Mankato, MN 56002.
Jim was born in Watertown, SD. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1950 and the University of South Dakota in 1955. He married Annette “Cheech” Besonen in 1958. Jim was an accountant and worked in that field throughout his career. He was Corporate Controller for Kayot, Inc. from 1971 to 1983, and then the controller for Alumacraft Boat Co. until his retirement in 1996. During his career, they lived in Minneapolis, Owatonna, Rochester, Mankato, Lake City, SC, and North Mankato, MN.
Jim was instrumental in forming the South-Central Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Accounts, was a member of the Institute of Management Accounts, and the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He was a life long member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. He was an active member of the Rochester and Mankato Elks lodges, and was awarded Elk of the Year several times. He was particularly proud of the work the Elks did supporting veterans, youth and other various community programs.
Jim was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, North Mankato, MN. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and golf.
Jim was the oldest of four siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ewing and Marjorie Middleton; his brothers, Robert and Richard; his sister, Marian; and nephew, Todd.
Jim is survived by his wife, Cheech; son, Michael and his wife Sylvia; daughter, Kay and her husband Jim; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.
