Joan D. Landas passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2024.
Joan was born on November 16, 1936, in Oelwein, IA to L.T. "Tim" and Mary Harn. she graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1955, Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids, in 1961 with a BA in English and Education, and Mankato State College in 1968 with a master's degree in remedial reading. Joan taught elementary school in Cosgrove, IA and Independence, IA, West Des Moines, IA and St. Joseph the Worker School in Mankato, at the Good Counsel Reading Center, the Resource Room of South-Central Technical College, and subbed in District #77.
On December 29, 1962, she married Marion F. "Jake" Landas at Sacred Heart Church in Oelwein, IA. A member of St, Joseph the Worker parish since 1966, Joan was active in the Womens Club, parish mission quilting group, the mission knitting group, as well as a volunteer in several capacities. Joan was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Rose of Lima, Church Women United in Mankato, as well as Mankato State University Faculty Wives. After tracing her ancestry, Joan wrote the Harn Family History for her siblings and their children. Joan enjoyed traveling, reading, keeping in touch with longtime friends, and attending sporting events, especially when her son or grandson played.
Mrs. Landas is survived by her husband, Jake, of Mankato, son John (Lisa) of Mankato and grandson Eli Landas of Oregon, WI, one sister, Loretta Hamilton of Owatonna, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, sisters Teresa, Marge and Betty, and brothers Bob & Tom.
Memorial Mass will be 11a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior. Family and friends are invited to gather for lunch in the church hall following the service. The family would like to thank Brighton Hospice and New Perspective for their care and compassion.
