Joan (Oestreich) Steck, 92, died on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Birchwood Cottages in North Mankato. 

A Memorial service to be held in the spring with day and time to be announced later. Northview – North Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or Birchwood Cottages.


Joan was born October 21, 1932 in Neillsville, WI. She married Siebert (Silver) Steck in 1951 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Mankato. They made their first home in TX, then CO, and finally in North Mankato.

She was a Cub Scout Den Leader, Campfire Girl Leader and church volunteer. Joan and Siebert belonged to Camping Club, Anniversary Group, and did lots of ballroom dancing. In their retirement years they spent every winter in TX.

After being home with her children for many years, Joan got her driver’s license and then managed the Wonder Bread Thrift Store for more than 25 years.

She loved baking cookies, was a master at Hardanger and shared these skills with many.

Joan is survived by her children, LeAnne Hines (Dan), Carolyn Graham, and Mark Steck (Sandy); 7 grandchildren, Angie Boblitt (Brett), Lindsay Hines, Stephanie Anderson (Kyle), Michael Graham, Nathaniel Graham (Heidi), Rollie Steck (Hannah), and Orin Steck; 16 great grandchildren; and brother, Perry Oestreich; two sisters-in-law, Delores Steck and Joyce Soost.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Siebert, and sons-in-law Gordy Graham and Glenn Lussky.
