Joan Gladys Ziegler, age 93, of Mankato, died Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Ecumen Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato, with Rev. John Kunz officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be from 5-8p.m., Monday, March 11, 2019 at Mankato Mortuary and continues one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to VINE Faith in Action or the Echo Food Shelf. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family.
Joan was born November 9, 1925 to William and Rose (Sporer) Roesch in New Ulm. She married Ken Ziegler on February 7, 1945. Together they raised nine children on the family farm.
Joan was very active in the community. She was a member of the Catholic Order of the Foresters, Eagles Club, Primetime Club, Captions Crew, a 4H leader, Rockeretts, Indian Lake Sunshine Club, and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. In her free time, she enjoyed playing the accordion, gardening, sewing, playing cards, feeding the birds, cheering on the Minnesota Twins, and baking, in which she was known for her mocha cakes.
Most of all she loved her family. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Joan is survived by her children, Judy Russell of Mankato, Jo Ann Olson of St. Cloud, Tom (Fran) Ziegler of Winthrop, John “Jack” (Lynn) Ziegler of Mapleton, Barb Hiniker of Minneapolis, Theresa (Scott) Haefner of Mankato, Cindy (Dan) Cummiskey of North Mankato, and Steve (Kristy) Ziegler of Mankato; 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Klebel and Elaine Shea; sisters-in-law, Patty Roesch and Betty Schorn; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband, Kenneth in 2017; son, Gerald; son-in-law, John Olson; sisters, Dorothy, Mildred, and Lorraine; and brother, Ray.
