Joel Gilman, Age 80, of Mankato passed away peacefully March 14, 2019 at Pathstone Living after a three month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Visitation will be held at Northview North Mankato Mortuary Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The memorial service will follow. Memorials in Joel’s memory may be given to the donor’s choice.
Joel was born August 23, 1938 in Mankato to George and Opal Gilman. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1956 and served his country with the US Army from 1956 – 1959. Joel married Barbara Miller on June 16, 1962 in Rock Valley, IA.
Joel began working at Continental Can Co./Crown Cork & Seal in 1961 and retired in 2000. He was blessed with nineteen great years of retirement and enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, walking the mall, going to the casino and especially spending time with his family and friends. Joel was a kind and caring person and loved telling stories.
Joel is survived by his wife, Barb; daughter, Julie Liebl (Jeff Steinbach); grandchildren, Ben Yokiel, Rachel Yokiel, Aidan Liebl and Garrett Liebl; sisters, Phyllis Krippner of Hastings, MN and Laurie (Jerry) Johannsen of Mankato; brothers-in-law, A. J. (Lolly) Miller of Golden CO and Michael (Susan) Miller of Sarasota FL; three nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Irene Miller; and brother-in-law, Donald Krippner.
