John "Jack" Anthony Arend

John “Jack” Anthony Arend, age 86, of Mankato passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Milestone Senior Living, Faribault.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m., on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Mankato Mortuary on Riverfront Drive. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Milestone Senior Living, Faribault.

Jack was born on May 13, 1938, to Lewis and Esther (Dorn) Arend in Mankato, MN. He attended grade school at SS. Peter and Paul School in Mankato and graduated from Loyola High School in 1956. He served active duty in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 with much of that time stationed in Germany. He married Emily Wenner on May 1, 1965, in Mankato.

He spent his 50+ year working career as a marine outboard mechanic, self-employed and owner of Arend Repair & Marine in Mankato until 1992, after which he worked in the same vocation in Mapleton and Madison Lake until his retirement. In his early adult life, he enjoyed dirt track motorcycle racing, winning several awards. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing more than anything else, spending any time he could in his boat on Lake Washington.

Jack is survived by his sons, Anthony (Christine), Christopher (Barbara), and Nicholas; grandchildren, Travis, and Abigayle; sister, Donna Pepper, as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Emily, and parents, Lewis and Esther Arend.
