John “Bud” Samuel Getta, age 91 of lower North Mankato passed away Sunday June 30, 2024 after suffering a stroke a year ago. 

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Wednesday. 

Bud was born March 11, 1933 to John and Anna (Keinz) Getta in Mankato. After High School Bud served his country in the United States Navy and spent some of his tour on the USS Missouri Battleship. He was married to Lynn Krause on July 28, 1956 until her death on March 12, 1999. Bud married Mary Lou Sinclair on February 15, 2003.

Bud was plant manager at Kayot Marine, owned Northside Welding. He was a volunteer fireman in North Mankato and was on the North Mankato Planning Commission. He also owned real estate as part of Woodcutters Limited and owned the Dairy Queen West for five years. In his younger years he represented Mankato and North Mankato in traveling city baseball and hockey leagues. Bud was also an avid golfer. He was a member of Holy Rosary and was a life member of the VFW.

Bud is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; seven children, Richelle (David) McLean, Mitchell (Diane) Getta, Matthew (MaryAnn) Getta, Nathan (Kathy) Getta, Ramona (Jayme) Anderson, Nicole Getta and Elizabeth Getta; three stepchildren, David Sinclair, Mary Beth Sinclair and Dan (Sarah) Sinclair; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
