John Milo Krenik, age 83, of North Mankato, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019. Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, with visitation one hour prior. Private family burial will take place at Marysburg Cemetery. Northview - North Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
John was born on the family farm south of Le Center, MN on September 14, 1935. He was the fifth child born into a family of eight. As a youth he worked hard milking cows by hand and used a horse to plow and cut hay. He attended and graduated from Le Center school.
He served in the U. S. Army in 1955 until he was honorably discharged in 1958. He was an expert rifle and marksman and received a good conduct medal. He married Mary McCarthy on September 5, 1959 at Marysburg Church in Madison Lake, MN and they resided in North Mankato. John and Mary would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this September.
He owned a service station for 15 years. John then worked for MICO several more years before working and retiring with the City of North Mankato. John’s love for the outdoors was known by all. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, trapper, gardener, morel mushroom hunter, and ginseng harvester. John spent every day either in the woods or on the lake. He was a collector of many things and treasured everything! He loved getting together with his family and was always the first one to get a card game going.
John is survived by his wife, of 60 years, Mary (McCarthy); children, James (Laura), Mark (Shana), Patrick (Cari); grandchildren, Emily, Shannon, Claire, Joseph, Mylie, Wyatt; siblings, Norbert (Theresa), Margaret Traxler, Gordon (Kathy), Edward (Hannah), as well as many nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Agnes Krenik; siblings, Richard (Mary), Delores (Robert) Hruby, Daniel (Gayle); brother-in-law, Charles Traxler, as well as many nieces and nephews.
John touched the lives of many with his heartfelt stories and he will be missed.
