Juanita "Anita" Marie Kopp

September 16, 1941 — December 1, 2022

North Mankato, MN

Juanita “Anita” Marie Kopp, age 81, long time resident of North Mankato passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with the Memorial Service starting at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary. Private interment will be at Woodland Hills Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and available on Anita’s obituary page at www.mankatomortuary.com.

Anita was born September 16, 1941 in Hibbing, MN to Anthony and Agnes (Adrian) Casio. Shortly after, the family moved to Coleraine, MN where she was raised with her 3 brothers.  As the only girl, she could do no wrong in her father’s eyes, as her brothers would attest.

Upon graduation from Greenway High School, she earned an associate degree at Itasca Community College. Anita moved to Minneapolis to both work and help care for her older brother, Gary. After Gary’s passing, Anita returned to the Iron Range where she met Richard “Gary” Kopp at a Marine Corp ball. Anita and Gary were united in marriage on February 8, 1964 in Grand Rapids, MN. After a brief stay in Mankato, MN where their daughter, Jackie, was born, the family returned up north to Babbitt, MN. There Gary worked in the iron ore mines and Anita began working for State Farm Insurance. Shortly after the birth of son Tom, the family returned to Mankato. Anita resumed working for State Farm until her retirement in 1999. Not one to stay still for long, Anita became the Captain’s Assistant at the Salvation Army until 2017. She will be remembered for her love of her grandchildren, conversations with friends and family, a good cup of coffee with cream and trying her luck at the casino with grandson Jacob.  She was a proud member of the Salvation Army Women’s Ministries and Christ the King Lutheran Church.

Anita is survived by her children, Jacqueline Hummer, Thomas (Angie) Kopp; grandchildren, Jacob Hummer, Kelsey Kopp, and Tyler (Andrea) Kopp; special friend, Arnie Ranum; brothers, Anthony (Pamey) Casio, Greg (Cory) Casio; special nephew, Cary (Teresa) Casio and their daughter, Kate; as well as many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; infant granddaughter, Emily Kopp; older brother, Gary Casio; nephew Tony Casio; and her parents.
