Kim Warren Spears, age 67, of North Mankato, died Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 11am, Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in North Mankato with visitation starting at 9:30am. Reverend LeRoy LaPlant will be officiating. Kim, the second of four children, was born July 17, 1954 in East Lansing, MI to John and Elizabeth “Bette” (Erickson) Spears. He also lived in Chicago and California before moving to North Mankato. Kim worked in the IT department at Taylor Corporation and later Dotson Iron Casting for 15 years. He married Beverly Woods in January 2008. Kim served on the North Mankato City Council from 2012 until 2016 and later ran for a state House seat. He recently ran for North Mankato mayor in 2020.
Kim was a lifelong learner, volunteer at Mankato Makerspace, and faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Kim is survived by his wife, Beverly Woods of North Mankato; children, Linda (Mike) Begley of Upton, KY; Stanley Quarles, Jr. of Chandler, AZ, Bobbi (Michael) Collins of Warren, MI; and Brancie (Brian) Hanley of Otter Lake, MI; 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Mark, Brittannie, Connor, Kailyn, Kennedi, Mason, Raegan, Tyler, and Hunter; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Noreen McDonald, Donna (Jeff) Beloate, and Tim Spears; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, John.
