Lance Jerome Leipold passed to eternal rest on August 29, 2019. He was born on January 25, 1940 in Minneapolis. He was the youngest son of L Edmond and Gladys Leipold. A graduate of Roosevelt High and the University of Minnesota, he retired as an assistant professor after 42 years at MSU, Mankato. He was known for his quick wit and humor. He would banter with family and friends. His knowledge and love of music, travel, history and family was appreciated by all. He could identify recordings of opera and symphony by time and place, and he greatly enjoyed concerts. He was a very personable person. He had a beautiful singing voice and could play most any musical instrument.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean; and brother, Edmond.
Lance is survived by his loving wife of 50+ years, Hannelore; sons, Christopher and Andreas (Chrissy); brother, Darel (LaVerna); granddaughters, Brianna and Lorelai; sister-in-law, Brunhilde; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mankato. Interment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park at a later date.
Memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the church and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the MSU Music Department, First Presbyterian Church of Mankato, or the donor’s choice.
