Lauren Fredrick Johnston, age 88, of Mankato passed away at home on Tuesday, September 11, 2019. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m., on Monday, September 16, 2019 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato with visitation one hour prior at the church. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lauren was born on April 6, 1931 in Butternut Valley Township to Iva (Rogers) and George Johnston. The family moved to Amboy and then to Mankato. He joined the Army in 1948. He served in the Army in the Korean Conflict until 1952. He met and married Patricia Keenan at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and to this union they had 4 children, and a very special pet, Molly. Lauren worked at Continental Can Company for 38 years as a machine operator. He could fix anything! He loved to camp, bowl, fish, play cards, listen to country music and old cars.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 66 years, Patricia; children, Dennis (Nancy) Johnston of Mankato, MN, Denise (Mike) Burr of Huron, SD, Douglas (Lisa) Johnston of Mankato, MN, David (Cindy) Johnston of Mankato, MN; grandchildren, Dana (Jamie) of Canton, GA, Debbin, Drew, Peter, Suzy, Mindy and Brianna of Mankato, MN; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Katy Schueneman, Peggy Seitzer and Ruth Keenan, as well as many nieces and nephews. Lauren is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Patricia; brothers, Roger (Lorraine) and Marlin, as well as his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Loyola Schola Foundation or donor’s choice.
