LaVona Marie Schmidt

LaVona Marie Schmidt, age 97, of Mankato, died on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Primrose Retirement Community of Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7^th at the church.

Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

LaVona Marie, the daughter of George C. and Ida (Wirsing) Guentzel, was born on October 6, 1921 in Le Sueur County. She graduated from Good Counsel Academy in Mankato. LaVona married Robert J. Schmidt on May 14, 1941 and he preceded her in death on January 15, 1991.

She is survived by her children, Sheila (Russell) DeVos of Lakeville, Gary (Vicki) Schmidt of Madison Lake, Sheryl Redding of Mankato, and Troy (Melanie) Schmidt of Rochester; 11 grandchildren, Dan DeVos, Scott (Brooke) DeVos, Wendy (Brett) Rouleau, Chad (Andrea) Schmidt, Matt Schmidt, Kate Brielmaier, Dan Brielmaier, Elizabeth Brielmaier (fiancé, Jonathan Salvador), Katrina (Scott) Schaefer, Ryan (Kara) Schmidt, and Christopher (Audrey) Schmidt; and  9 great grandchildren, Max and Tucker DeVos, Ryan and Zachary Rouleau, Owen and Nora Schmidt, and Jasper, Margaret and Evelyn Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Leo Mettler; husband, Robert J. Schmidt; and daughter, Robyn Schmidt.

LaVona will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
