Leon “Lee” John Vedders was born October 15, 1944 in Milaca, MN to John and Irene Vedders. He was 75 years old when he died on October 28, 2019 in Mankato, MN. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church in North Mankato, MN. Visitation will be held at the church prior to service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Northview – North Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
He graduated from Milaca High School and went on to school at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN to learn the trade of drafting. He met Sharon Gail Berger in 1964 and married her a few months later. They were married for 41 years when she passed away in 2005. Lee worked for 21 years at McQuay in Plymouth, MN where he designed air-cooling systems. In 1985, he moved to Yuma, AZ where he worked for Russell Coil Company for 20 more years as their Chief Draftsman. In 2006, he retired and moved to Mankato, MN.
Lee loved to hunt and fish. He played 3rd base for his softball teams from McQuay, Russell Coil Company and Fritz & Joyce’s over 40 league. He coached Rockford, MN’s Peewee hockey teams for many years. He and his wife Shari played golf, shot darts and bowled in many different leagues in Yuma, Arizona. He loved to play cards, read and spend time with his family. In Mankato, MN he was passionate about attending Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church men’s group who met weekly for bible study.
He is survived by his three children, Bryan (Pearl) Vedders, Jill (Kenny) Klooster, and Joel Vedders; grandchildren, Brittney (John) Hollen, Andrea (Jason) Voegele, Anna Delaittre, Ashton Vedders, Chandler and Cameron Klooster, and Alexia Vedders; great-grandchildren, Aspyn and Jocelyn Hollen; siblings, Sharon Minks, Clint Vedders, Don (Robin) Vedders, Paul Vedders, Harvey (Shelly) Vedders, Terry (Suzie) Vedders, Phil (Debbie) Vedders; many nieces and nephews and too many friends to count.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Vedders, brothers Wendell and Stanley Vedders; wife, Shari (Berger) Vedders and his great-grandson, Carson Bosquez-Sundblad.
