Leona "Lee" Schmal

Leona “Lee” Catherine Schmal, age 93, of Mankato, died peacefully, Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Ecumen Pathstone in Mankato.

Funeral Mass was held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. 

Lee was born June 15, 1931, in Cold Spring, Minnesota to Frank and Magdalena (Schreifels) Theis. Lee married George J. Schmal on November 4, 1950, at St. John’s Chrysostom Catholic Church, Inglewood, CA.

Lee is survived by three children, John Schmal and Kate Podegracz of California, Mary (Max) Warden of Mankato; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six siblings.

Lee was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George in 2009; and five siblings.
