Louise Mae Workman

Mankato Mortuary 1001 North Riverfront Drive Mankato, MN 56001   Louise Mae “Weege” Workman was born July 18, 1926 in New Prague, Minnesota. She passed away on June 24, 2019, to join her beloved Lord and Savior. After graduating from New Prague High School, she went on to study at the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, Minnesota and then transferred to Mankato Teachers College where she obtained a teaching degree and taught in the Cleveland and New Ulm elementary schools. Louise became the bride of Jerome “Jerry” Workman on August 27, 1949 at a ceremony at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. Her early educational career was replaced by motherhood and raising of their six children.  The first three children were born in Northfield, Minnesota and in 1956, the family moved to Mankato where the last three children were born. Louise’s generosity toward her children and many organizations in the community was significant and she gave her time, love and support to the things she believed in, serving as Chairman of the Mankato March of Dimes, involvement in Minnesota Republican politics, and the Mankato Nicollet Humane Society (BENCHS). She has been a member of Hosanna Lutheran church for over fifteen years. Louise was an avid tennis player and golfer, playing golf into her early 80’s.  She was an early riser and could be found on the Mankato Golf Club course early in the morning before the sprinklers were even turned off and was a member of the ”nine-holers.”  She also enjoyed gardening and floral arranging and many of her beautiful creations can be found in the homes of her children and friends.  Louise also modeled for many years for some of Mankato’s local department stores. With an indomitable spirit and wonderful personality, Louise always had a smile on her face and a kind word was always on her lips. Selfless and honest to a fault she represented the best of human nature. She loved life and lived a life of love.  Louise was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She leaves to cherish her memory, six children: Stephen (Terri) Workman of Florida, Jerome Jr. (Becky) of Massachusetts, Anita Workman of Mankato, Becky Firouzi of Las Vegas, NV, Debbie Guentzel of Arizona, Tony Workman of Mankato, 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and faithful dog companion, Coco. Louise was preceded in death by her husband Jerry in 2015, parents, Anton “Doc” and Marcella (Wolf) Sladek of New Prague and brother, Richard Sladek of Wayzata. A private family service is being held. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
