Lowell James

Lowell Elmer James, 91, of Mankato, died April 19, 2023 at New Perspective Senior Living in Mankato.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. The family prefers memorials be given to Christ the King Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. Lowell was born February 14, 1932 to Elmer and Minnie (Briese) James in Hillman, Minnesota. He graduated from Mora High School in 1950. Lowell served in the US Navy from 1952 until 1956. On June 22, 1963, he married Shirley Nelson. Together they raised three children, Pam, Kari, and Greg.

Lowell worked as a field service engineer for Unisys Company retiring in 1988. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing softball and watching sports.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Pam (Randy Isenberg) James of Mankato, Kari (Greg) Shakley of Ohio, and Greg James of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Alyssa and Rachel Shakley; sister, Marlyce (Jim) Harlan; sisters-in-law, Pearl Snyder James and Barb James; and many nieces and nephews.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eldon James, Marlyn James, and Delmer (Betty) James; and sister, Verna (Rudy) Donner.
