Marian Ann Ostgarden

Marian Ann (Simonds) Ostgarden, age 91, of Mankato, MN died peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., November 15th, 2019 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to the School Sisters of Notre Dame – Our Lady of Good Counsel or a Pro-life cause.

Marian was born on July 19, 1928 to Charles and Marguerite (Flannery) Simonds in Salem, Ohio. Upon high school graduation, Marian studied nursing in Philadelphia, before marrying Oris Gilman Ostgarden on April 15, 1950 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Leetonia, Ohio. Together they raised a family of 12 children in Mankato, Minnesota. Marian dedicated her life to faith, family and flowers, serving her community in a variety of roles while also attending floral school and building her home business, Ostgarden Flowers, and her flower shop, Flowers Etc. in the Belle Mar Mall. Beyond her family and business, Marian was happiest in her garden and as a member of the choir at Ss. Peter and Paul Church.

Marian is survived by 11 children; Oris Joseph (Vi Theis) Ostgarden, Mankato, Arnold (Cindy) Ostgarden, of N. Dakota, Gerry Ostgarden, South Dakota, Kathryn (Mark) Sargent, Mankato, Mary (Robb) Ruyle, Colorado,  Nancy (Chris) Rivers, Colorado, Jo (Michole Jensen) Ostgarden, Oregon, George (Kathy) Ostgarden, Colorado, Diana (Tom) Wittrock, Colorado, Karen (Dave) Blaschko, Le Center, John (Lowell Gordon) Ostgarden, Oregon, as well as 30 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; brother, John Simonds of Leetonia, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marguerite (Flannery) Simonds; husband, Oris Ostgarden; sister, Pat (Simonds) Long; half-sister Jean DeJane; brother, Frankie Simonds; her daughter, Julie; granddaughter, Marcie; and great-grandson, Connor
