Marianne was born to Wendell and Anna (Hiniker) Wenner on December 26, 1928. She was the 2nd oldest in a family of 9 children – 7 sons and 2 daughters. Her mother became ill within a year of her little sister’s birth. Her mother died when she was 13 years old. By the time she was 14 years old, she was her family’s care giver along with her father. Marianne became a “Mom” from then on. She met Glen Sohre in her late teens. She married him on September 1, 1948. In a little more than the next 3 years, she had 3 of her 5 daughters. She had a son when her youngest daughter was 7. When her son was 12, a 6-year-old boy joined the family, and became the 2nd son in the family. Marianne was a loving mother. She read Bible stories, lead and taught them how to pray, and help others. She and Glen taught by example. The family attended church regularly, and all the children attended St. John’s Parochial School for the first 8 years of their education. She taught her family to love each other, support each other, help each other. She taught them how to cook, clean, bake, sew, and much more.
Marianne had many friends. She was supportive and helped others often. She also taught women’s Bible studies for many years. She and Glen had devotions-Bible reading and prayers every night, until she could no longer do it because of her increased problems form Alzheimer’s. Even while confused, she prayed and sang. She loved hymns, and songs from her past. Even while in the nursing home, when Glen visited, they would sing to each other. Mom loved to sing with her children, grandchildren, and even her great-grandchildren.
Marianne and Glen had their last anniversary together on September 1, 2020. They were married for 72 years. Glen went to heaven on September 13, 2020. Marianne wanted to join him in heaven. Jesus granted the wish on Monday, October 24, 2022.
Marianne is survived by her children, Sharon Lange, Deborah (John) Brandts, Cinda FitzSimmons, Suzan (Ken) Hollerich, Rhonda (Allen) Walters, Glen (Anne) Sohre, and Shane (Becky) Wilson; 30 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and 21 grandchildren-in-law; siblings, Donna (Paul) Zins, Kenny (Phyllis) Wenner, Wendell Wenner Jr., Skip Wenner; sisters-in-law, Marge and Betty Wenner; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
