Marion Helen Lichtenberg, 82, of Mankato, died January 26, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato.

A Celebration of Marion’s Life will be held from 2-5 p.m., with a sharing of memories at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, July 13th, 2019 at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Mankato.

Marion was born March 20, 1936 to Walter P. and Irma M. (Speck) Beinke in Mankato. Marion graduated from Mankato High School in 1953 and then Mankato State College with a degree in education.  She taught home economics and Physical Education in Mankato.  In the early days she taught exercise classes, swimming, gun, snowmobile safety training and was a life guard. She later worked in social services and health care as a home health aide.

She had many friends and was a very social lady volunteering for many causes - the Salvation Army, the Cancer Society, Humane Society, and many others organizations.  She was a member of many clubs and activities her whole life.  She was in Yell, Biology, Projection, Chi Epsilon, Phi Omega, Band, Junior Historical Society, Civics, and GAA clubs.  Later in life, German Club, Raw Food Group, Solo Parents, Retreats, Church Functions and many others.  She loved and enjoyed everything Minnesota - the outdoors, walked many parks, planted flowers and seeds everywhere including our Glenwood Cemetery and her own garden.  She always harvested the fruits of her labor and did a lot of canning. She dabbled in selling the latest natural therapies.  She loved everything organic.  Music of all sorts was also a love - She attended many activities and events.  She had a true passion was volunteering for the Pow Wow annually.  She was involved in drumming circles and made several drums herself. She attended church at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Hope Interfaith Center.

Marion is survived by her daughter, Gwynn Perry of Seattle, WA; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Irma Beinke; three children, Cynthia, Robert, and Anita; ex-husband, Gene Lichtenberg; and brother, Walter Beinke Jr.
