Marjorie Mae Sweiger

Marjorie Mae Sweiger, age 92, of Mankato, died on October 12, 2023 at Oaklawn Rehabilitation after a battle with liver cancer. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 17 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.  Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marge was born on January 20, 1931 to Bernard Benedict and Anna Marie (Schacherer) McGuire in Richardton, N.D.  Marge graduated from Mount St. Mary’s High School in St. Paul and the St. Paul School of Hairdressing.  Marge was united in marriage to Howard Paul Sweiger on December 8, 1951 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.  Marge worked as a licensed hairdresser for 10 years and then worked in retail after moving to Mankato.  She retired at age 84 after working for 25 years as a housekeeper at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital.  Marge enjoyed crocheting, sewing, embroidery, and spending time with friends putting puzzles together.  She loved going to the casino with family and friends. 

Marge is survived by two daughters, Barbara Sweiger (Jul Engelby) of Mankato and Rose (Steve) Rustman of St. Peter; grandchildren, Jameson (Sarah) Sweiger of Mankato, James Rustman of St. Peter, and Charles (Becky) Rustman of St. Peter; great-grandchildren, Hazel Sweiger, Noah, Jaxson, Silas, and Ryker Rustman; brother, James McGuire; sister-in-law, Margaret Sack; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Sweiger, Sr.; sons, Robert James and Howard Sweiger, Jr.; and siblings, Fran (Sis) Lorentz, Bernard McGuire, and Mary Hiniker.
