Marlys Frieda Clark

Marlys Clark, age 80, of Lake Crystal, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday April 25, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Crystal, Minnesota. Visitation is Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Lake Crystal Mortuary in Lake Crystal. Burial will be 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Lake Crystal Cemetery.

Marlys Frieda (Voehl) Clark was born on March 12, 1939, in Rost Township, Jackson County, Minnesota to the late Emanuel and Marcella (Motl) Voehl. She received her education from the Lakefield Public School and graduated from the Class of 1957. Upon graduation, Marlys began her career as a Dental Assistant and Receptionist for Dr. Erdmann in Lakefield. Later, she joined the dental practice of Dr. James Klaassen, and Drs. Lee and Greg Peterson in Windom.

In 1960, Marlys was united in marriage to James Clark at the United Methodist Church in Lakefield. As a result of Jim’s banking career, they resided in several southern Minnesota communities including Windom, where they raised their two daughters, Cindy and Cherie. Jim and Marlys have resided in Lake Crystal for the past 41 years enjoying the community and the lake.

Marlys assisted in many bank and community events. She had a deep concern for bank employees and their families and considered them extended family. She has a strong Christian faith and was an Elder, Deacon, and an active member of the Presbyterian Women’s Organization (PWC), and sang in church choirs most of her life. Marlys was a charter member of the Lioness Club.

Through the years, Marlys and Jim found much joy in traveling throughout the United States in their RV. Many fond memories with family and friends were spent in Florida, and the past 16 years at their Arizona winter home. This family, and her role as mother and grandmother, was most important to Marlys. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy. The memories made will always be sown in our hearts forever.

Marlys is survived by her husband, James Clark of Lake Crystal; two children, Dr. Cindy Clark of Columbia, Kentucky and Cherie (Dave) Stemig of Jordan, Minnesota; grandchildren, Jacob Stemig, Lexy Stemig, Kaley Holub, and Kara Holub; brother, Harold (Pauline) of Lakefield, Minnesota; sister, Pat Klindworth of Beverly Hills, California; brothers-in-law, Wendal (Mary) Clark, Delbert (Leanne) Clark; sister-in-law, Norma Clark; and multiple beloved nephews and nieces. Meeting in heaven are parents, Emanuel and Marcella Voehl; twin brother, Marlyn Voehl; sister, Marilyn Voehl; in laws, Grant (Lydia) (Emma) Clark; brothers-in-law, Leon (Delores) Clark, Wayne Clark, and Tom and son, Brandon Klindworth.

The family of Marlys Clark wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Mayo Health System Hospice, Madelia Community Hospital, and ACS House of Hope Rochester, Minnesota for the exceptional and compassionate care provided to Marlys.
