Martin Thomas Horvat, age 89, of Mankato, died on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
Memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday April 13, 2019 at the Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato with a visitation from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at a later date.
Martin Thomas, the son of Stephen and Magdelene (Mozanich) Horvat, was born on July 22, 1929 in Mankato. He graduated from Loyola High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. On August 11, 1951, Martin married Geraldine Reid and they later divorced. He was a farmer and was previously employed by Honeymead of Mankato. Martin was a lifetime member of the Eagles Club of Mankato, Key City Conservation Club, Pheasants Forever, and the Minnesota Deer Hunter’s Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, woodworking, and he was an avid reader.
He is survived by children, Victoria (Mark) Kennedy of Kasota, Sandra (Rick) Paulsen of Alexandria, Pamela (Garth) Ristau of Hillman and Daniel (Tina) Horvat of Le Sueur; grandchildren, Nick (Jessica) Paulsen, Jason Ristau, Mitch Paulsen, Pat (Amy) Kennedy, April Ristau (special friend, Zach Labarge), Chris (Amanda) Kennedy, and Noah (Kelly) Horvat; one step grandson, Darrin Reddick; five great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; and one sister, Sister Veronica Horvat, SSND of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one step grandchild, Joseph Reddick; brothers, Stephen in infancy, Joseph, George, Stephen in infancy, John and Stephen; and sisters, Mary Ritter, Katie Pufahl, and Annie Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Mayo Clinic Health System - Hospice or the Minnesota Deer Hunter’s Association.
