Mary Ann Margaret Monk

Mary Ann M Monk, age 93, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, died December 15, 2023. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Graveside services at Fort Snelling National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband.

Mary Ann was born May 8,1930 to Mathilda (Hartman) and Andrew Stang in Hopkins, MN. After graduating  from Hopkins High school, she worked for Minneapolis Moline and Northern States Power Company. Mary Ann spent the rest of her years caring for her family.

Mary Ann donated a kidney to her husband in 1992 and was a healthcare pioneer in the world of living donor transplant. If you had the pleasure of knowing Mary Ann, you will remember her smile and sense of humor.

Survived by daughter, Susan (John) Kjos and son, Donald Jr. (Karen) Monk; grandchildren, Jessica (Meg), Ryan (Ashlee), Haley (Kyle), Sam, along with four great-grandchildren; sister, Judy Lindgren; sister-in-law, LaVerne Stang and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a number of close friends.  

Preceded in death by husband, Donald; siblings, Dorie Brown and Alby Stang; parents, Mathilda and Andrew Stang; children, Thomas Monk and Kathy Wright; grandchildren, Jennifer Adams and Andrew Kjos. Mary Ann was heartbroken to have outlived several of her children and grandchildren.
