Melva Jean Stokes, age 93, of Lake Crystal passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Crystal Seasons Living Center.
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m., on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Cambria Presbyterian Church, with visitation one hour prior at the church as well. Burial will be in Cambria Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Cambria Presbyterian Church, ECHO Food Shelf, or to donor’s choice.
Melva was born October 27, 1929, in Madelia to Evan and Stella (Nelson) Hughes. She went to Country School, District 78. Melva attended and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1946. She worked at Citizens Bank in New Ulm for over 20 years, and then in the office at Kraft Foods, New Ulm until retiring in 1992. Roger and Melva were married on October 18, 1952 and resided at their farm in Butternut Township for 60 years.
Melva was involved in 4-H, loved to dance, shop, and was a Twins fan. She taught Sunday School at Cambria Presbyterian Church. She was the church Deacon and Elder. Melva also was the treasurer at the church, and the Cambria Cemetery. She was a Legion Auxiliary Member for 79 years. Melva’s top priority was her family, and she made sure to attend all of her children and grandchildren’s events.
Melva is survived by her son, Tim and special friend, Gina Bruns; daughter, Julie and special friend, Rod Morton; grandchildren, Erica (Michael) Finnegan, and Nicholas (Sarah) Stokes; great-grandchildren, Ella and William Finnegan, and Makenna and Addison Stokes, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Melva was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, and her parents, Evan and Stella Hughes.
