Michael W. Holzapfel, age 64, of rural North Mankato, died Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Hillcrest Health Care Center from complications of cancer.
A Public Memorial Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines, social distancing will be observed, masks are encouraged and the number of visitation guests allowed will be monitored.
Michael was born April 26, 1956 to Donald Wayne and Vera Arlene (Rogers) Holzapfel in Mankato. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church. He graduated from Mankato East High School in 1974 and attended Mankato Vo-Tech. He met Renee Gilbertson in 1984 and after many years together they were married on July 7, 2007.
Mike worked for Hewitt Machine and Manufacturing, Inc. in Nicollet for many years and then Enterprise Machining Company in Mankato until his retirement.
Mike enjoyed playing baseball and hockey in past years. He loved hunting, especially pheasant and turkey. He enjoyed being outside listening to music and having some Schmidty’s. He loved Brittany Spaniel dogs, having many over the years, his latest being “Indy”.
Mike is survived by two daughters, Beth (Eric) Adams, April (Brian) Hopkins, both of Mankato; grandson, Henry Hopkins; mother, Vera Holzapfel; two sisters, Vickie Conlon and Sharon (Dennis) Dieken all of Mankato; two nieces, Jenny Conlon and Alyssia Dieken; nephew, Mike Conlon; aunts, uncles, extended family, and many friends, including special friends, Randy and Vicki Goebel. A special thank you to Mike’s neighbors, Larry and Margo Bruegger.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Renee on April 7, 2012; father, Donald on November 4, 2010.
