Michael Lynn Jones, age 67, of Mankato and formerly of Lake Crystal, died Friday, March 29, 2024.
A Prayer Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 12, 2024, at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., Friday at Northview. Interment will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery.
Michael was born June 20, 1956, to Lloyd T. and Vivian A. (Jones) Jones in Mankato. He graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1974 as valedictorian. He was active in football, school plays, and stayed in Italy for summer abroad program. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1978 with honors with degrees in Public Health and Mortuary Science. Mike worked for Willwerscheid Funeral Home in St. Paul. He furthered his education with a degree as a litigation paralegal and started his career in insurance. Mike married Susan Groth April 12, 1980. He was employed by One Beacon Insurance, General Accident Insurance, and Farmer’s Insurance Group. He moved with family from the Twin Cities to Naperville/Aurora, IL, welcoming three children. In 1998 he retired from Farmer’s Insurance due to poor health. He moved to Eden Prairie and then to Good Thunder. Mike became director of the Mankato Family History Center at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mike enjoyed gardening, history, genealogy, cooking, classic cars, and his dogs, Nova and Bella.
Mike is survived by his three children, Kelly (Jeremy) Hughes of Elysian, John Jones of Glidden, WI, and Matthew Jones of Mankato; three grandchildren, Finley, Arbor, and Jasper Hughes; five siblings, Dave (Jackie) Jones of Lake Crystal, Cindy (Don) Stansbery of Sheldon, ND, Dan (Pat) Jones of Lake Crystal, Karen (Tony) Golden of Fairfield, PA, and Lori Jones of Lincoln, NE; aunt, Caroline Jones of Mankato; former wife, Susan Jones; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his dog, Nova.
