Michael Wayne Schallau

Mankato

Michael W. Schallau, died on March 26, 2024 at his home.  

 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Morson-Ario-Strand VFW Post 950.  Burial will be at Afton Cemetery in Cherokee, IA on Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m.  A reception will follow the burial at the Cherokee VFW Post 2253.  Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements. 

 

Michael was born on May 28, 1947 to Irvin and Joye (Triplett) Schallau in Cherokee, IA.  He graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee in 1965.  On January 8, 1966, Mike was united in marriage to Dayle Kintigh.   Mike proudly served in the United States Army for 35 years.  Serving in the military provided his family the opportunity to see many parts of the country.   Mike loved cars. After retirement, he worked for Lager’s in Mankato for 16 years.  He loved the outdoors and spending time with family, especially yearly family vacations up north.  His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  His great-grandchildren loved their Pop Pop.  

 

Mike is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dayle of Mankato; daughter, Missy (Jeff) Dee of Mankato and their children, Taylor, Chad, Michael, Riley, and Charlotte Dee; son, Tony (Nikki) Schallau of Owatonna and their children, Alix and Reagan Schallau; great-grandchildren, Halle and Drew; sister, Pat Carson of Cherokee, IA; sisters-in-law, Cathy Cargin, Nancy Schallau, Lois Schallau-Chettinger, and Rita Schallau; brother-in-law, Parker Johnson; and many other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Chad; father and mother-in-law, David (Roberta) Kintigh; brothers, Irvin, John, Jim, Dick, and Ron Schallau; sisters, Shirley Sherrill, Rita Peck, and Loretta Quam.
