Myron Lowell Wendland passed away comfortably on March 26, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato after a six month struggle with kidney failure.
He was born on a farm near Dotson, south of Springfield, Minnesota on March 11, 1933. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1951. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the army and was stationed at Lenggries, West Germany. In 1956, he was discharged from the army and returned to the farm.
In 1957, Myron married Patricia Renner, from Springfield and the two then moved to Portland, Oregon. They had two sons, Nathan in 1959 and Bryan in 1960. In 1968, the family moved to North Mankato, Minnesota. Myron and Patty were divorced in 1979.
In 1982, Myron married Iris Olsen of North Mankato. He helped raise her three young daughters. The two started their own painting and handy-man service. Myron retired in 1995. In 2004, the two were divorced. He then moved to Koppen Gardens in North Mankato where he lived the remainder of his life.
Myron was very active in the Mankato AA Club. He often credited Alcoholics Anonymous for “Saving his life.” Many of his hobbies and passions included playing Town Baseball with his brother Marvin (at a much younger age, of course), fishing, golfing, traveling, photography, billiards and, of course, his quirky love of the English language. He wrote many, many poems over his lifetime and loved pointing out his everyday peculiar observations with puns, jokes, witticisms, and general Tom-foolery.
Myron was preceded in death by his father, Henry; mother, Goldia (Maha); sisters Gloria, Sylvia, and Ardelle; and brother, Marvin. Surviving are his siblings, Ardis, Mary Ann, Walter, Bernard, Berneida, Sharon, Roman, Diane and Patrice; sons, Nathan (Sherri) and Bryan (Darla); grandchildren, Jeremy, Derek and Larissa; and many nephews and nieces.
Memorial service will be held at 3:30pm, Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary with visitation starting at 2pm. Myron will be interred in a private ceremony at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minnesota at a later date.
